I have been playing guitar since the age of 15 and there are many guitarists that I discovered in my journey who inspired me and fueled my passion for music and guitar playing but there are some guitar players who are really close to my heart, whom I admire alot. These are the guitarists whom I consider pure virtuoso and innovative with immense creativity and skills.
The following are the guitarists that I find very inspiring -
1.Gary Moore
One of the greatest and most versatile guitarist ever born on earth, Gary Moore's impact on my guitar playing has been huge. The first time I discovered Gary Moore was on the year 2020 at the age of 15 when I was listening to songs on Spotify and then a song played named "Still Got The Blues" and the moment I heard the intro it completely blew my mind and I just realised that I've heard a virtuoso. The fusion of fast blues rock shredding and melodic phrasing in the song is brilliant. The second song of him that I heard was The Loner but I didn't really knew much about his versatility until I listened to all the songs of album Wild Frontier which wasmy first introduction to Celtic and Celtic Rock music, especially songs like Wild Frontier, Over The Hills and Far Away and Johnny Boy.It has been more than 3 years since I discovered Gary Moore and in these 3 years I have heard more than 100 of Gary Moore's songs and 12 albums also have played many songs by him. There are still some of the Gary Moore's songs and albums that I am yet to fully discover and listen to.The songs like Empty Rooms and Parissiene walkways have wonderful melodic guitar solos. Overall in according to my experience of listening Gary's music so far I would have to say that his guitar tone, melodic phrasing, Fast shred guitar licks, strong dynamics and versatility to play in different styles of music has made me huge admirer of his music.Gary Moore was mighty as a musician, a brilliant singer-songwriter and a legendary guitarist.
If there is a guitarist I feel has a very unique and experimental sound of eastern and western music with a proper balance of fast guitar shredding and melodic phrasing, I think of Marty Friedman the beautiful fusion of Eastern music like Japanese, Chinese and middle eastern exotic melodies with the combination of western music like Rock, Metal and Blues. Although he has the ability to play really guitar fast with lead guitar techniques like sweep picking he refuses to call himself a shredder and embraces the beauty of melodic phrasing which is really felt interesting about him that even though he can play really fast and flashy guitar licks but still doesn't brags about his fast guitar runs which really shows he has a great sense of music. I've been listening to his music since the age of 16 when I discovered the band Megadeth through the song "Tornado of souls" which itself is one of the greatest Thrash metal song in the Thrash metal history with one of the best guitar solo ever in the history of guitar solos. The album "Scenes" is one of my all time favourite album with beautiful combination of exotic and Rock/Metal guitar phrasings.
3.David Gilmour
One of the most popular and highly rated guitarist by many people not only 'cause he is a guitarist from a massively commercially successful band Pink Floyd but also his guittar playing is really magical when he combines it with ambient music it feels like you are in a different world. His big bends on guitar and soulful guitar phrasing with guitar effects like delay, chorus and many other effects that makes his guitar playing much more beautiful and unique, his songs like Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, Raise my rent, High Hopes etc. are very close to my heart. I am looking forward to discover more of his songs and albums.Overall I am a huge fan and his music has inspired me alot.
4.Mark Knopfler
One of the most unique and inspiring guitar player I have ever heard in my life, one can easily identify just by hearing one note of his guitar playing. I was 15 years old when I had just completed six months of my guitar playing when I discovered him, and the first song by him that I listened was Sultans of Swing which completely blew, everthing in that song is so perfect, the middle guitar solo and the otro guitar solo by Mark Knopfler are some of the best guitar solos I've ever heard in my life also there are many more songs by him that I would recommend to listen like Money for Nothing, Brothers in Arms, Telegraph Road and Going Home. Also the way he uses his fingers instead of a plectrum really impressed me alot and I've been playing his songs since 2020 and it has been an awesome journey to absorb his art of guitar playing through these years.
5.Guthrie Govan
The only modern guitarist whom I consider to be the greatest in today's league of guitarists, Guthrie Govan has not just learned the art of guitar but has also went way beyond it in the terms of music and guitar playing. He can switch to literally any style of music within few seconds. He's been such a phenomenal guitarist from such a long time especially in the jazz fusion scene. Some of his greatest songs are Waves and Wonderful Slippery Thing. Though I haven't heard alot of his songs but he still has a special place of respect as guitar player for me.Till then I'll keep on discovering his songs more and more over the time.
So, these are five of the guitarists that inspire me alot currently.I'll add the names of some more guitarists in future, till then keep on listening music, keep on rockingš¤, Goodbye.✋
